I paid $1,000 extra for this camera so that I could get the full-size sensor (24mm x 36mm). The DX lens offered with this setup is suitable for a sensor one-half the size of the one in the D700 camera. This lens defeats the purpose of choosing the camera. Yes, the lens can be used, but I would only use it in an emergency - if I broke my lens and hd to borrow one from another photographer to use for a few hours for relatively unimportant shots. It is a terrible choice for the D700, which is one of the best camera's available (as of March, 2010). Get a AF-S (fast focusing) lens that is not labeled DX. If VR (vibration reduction) is available, especially on zoom lenses, that's also a good choice. But do not match a DX lens with the D700. What is being offered here is a Nikon D700 12.1MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Nikkor Zoom Lens, and that would be a foolish purchase.
